Summary: Shape History worked in partnership with the Web Foundation to build its platform around their #ForTheWeb campaign. During this campaign we supported in building and implementing their #Web30 event which spanned the globe on 12th March, 2019. Together, through workshops, we constructed a messaging and social media strategy that was successfully executed and designed to emotionally appeal to different audiences who used the Web in different ways. We even designed a Twitter emoji!
As well as encouraging the celebration of the Web’s achievements, we educated the public on the misuse of the Web, and how millions do not have full digital access, or rights, such as privacy. The call to action asked the public to engage with the #Web30 campaign and to sign the Contract for the Web, which will build a better Web for the future.
Results: A Twitter campaign worth $3.2 million, 20,000 original tweets using #Web30, 2000 extra sign-ups for the Contract for the Web, thousands of live stream views, tweets from Bill and Melinda Gates, and Hillary and Bill Clinton. Truly global coverage, including the BBC, and Al Jazeera.
