Project:  Internal Communications Strategy for Learning & Development Cause:  Global Health Deliverables: Purpose Advertising & Campaigns, Digital & Tech

The WHO Learning & Development Team asked us to help them overcome an internal communications challenge they faced to encourage more WHO staff to adopt and engage with their world-leading e-learning platform, iLearn.

CHALLENGE

Despite the iLearn platform being one of the most comprehensive and high quality e-learning platforms available, the Learning & Development team had struggled to encourage adoption across WHO staff. Even mandatory courses had relatively low completion rates and overall engagement with learning and development lacked an emotive link between the content and staff.

UTOPIA

To create a workplace where staff feel supported to succeed and the values of respect, inclusion, equity and diversity becomes the common thread that connects all staff globally. Whether they work in Nigeria, Malaysia or Geneva, these values underpin all their communications.

SOLUTION

We created a campaign called #WhenILearnWHOlearns which encourages staff to share their learning journeys with each other.

Our Work

The six mandatory courses of the iLearn platform provide staff with key knowledge about how to stay safe in the field, in the workplace and online. When one staff member learns these essential skills, the whole WHO family benefits.

To encourage compliance with mandatory courses, we updated their icons and visuals to have a more personal touch –  showing staff that each of them is an important part of WHO culture and that learning is key to fostering a working environment of respect, collaboration, innovation and excellence.

Annotations and pen marks are used to represent working together and learning from each other. We also use a thicker brush to make organic solid shapes that feel soft, hands on and fun.

The digital #WheniLearnWHOLearns campaign increased the usage of the iLearn platform with a 20% boost in staff completing their mandatory courses.
